Village Scarecrow Event
This year the Great Staughton Horticultural Society is arranged a Scarecrow Competition which was open to individuals of all ages and to families. The theme was ‘a character from a children’s book’.
The competition took in the summer during the week commencing 17th July 2017 and was extremely well supported.
There was an entry fee of £1.00. A voucher for £25.00 was awarded for the best entry – see below:
The Horticultral Society has been asked to arrange another Scarecrow Event for 2018 and will be advertising the theme early in the year so families and friends can plan their project in plenty of time. Watch this space for more information.
Entry forms and rules available from Gilberts the butcher, our Secretary Sheila Wells on 01480 861254 or downloaded from entry form.
Great Staughton Horticultural Society
We are friendly society, meeting several times a year. The AGM was held at 7.30pm on 8th March 2017, at The White Hart. Other events include the annual Plant Sale and Cream Tea, the next being on Saturday 27th May 2017 at The Pavilion on the Playing Field.
On the August Public Bank Holiday Saturday we have the main event of the year, the Horticultural Show, this will be on 26th August 2017, in the Village Hall. In the autumn we have a Garden Talk with a speaker and light refreshments, a sociable occasion, the 2017 date still to be decided.
The Great Staughton Horticultural Society held its 50th Horticultural Show in 2015. In 2016 the society arranged and paid for the refurbishment of the Village sign in memory of our late President, Hugh Stewart. We also maintain the seat by the Church and have planted bulbs and trees around the village.
