Staughton’s No. 1 Concern: Dog mess!
This issue is raised regularly at the Parish Council. It’s now provoking sharp comments on the village Facebook page. The dilemma is that miscreants have to be caught in the act, whereupon they can be fined.
Something needs to be done but what? Camden Council in London began an initiative to issue their staff and volunteers with aerosol sprays of vibrant pink bio-degradable paint which is sprayed on to offending mounds of dog mess. The result is a hideously colourful reminder to inconsiderate dog owners to clean up their act.
We bought two aerosols and we are trying it out here. One volunteer has been equipped with the paint, so expect to see areas of vivid pink appearing in the village. If any other considerate dog owner would like to use the second aerosol, please let me know (Anthony Withers 861224 or email@example.com) .
It will be interesting to hear your comments on this scheme at the Annual Parish assembly which takes place this year on April 6.
Finally, a number of villagers have reported that dogs have been spotted in the village which are not on a lead. Please would you wait until you are in the fields before you let your pet off the lead. Many thanks.
